Timeshares Can Take You Anywhere

Of course you love the history, culture and spirit of Guanacaste, and perhaps you're considering purchasing a timeshare there so you can return every year. It seems like a convenient option, but you might be concerned about being tied down to one location every year. However, one lesser-known fact about timeshares is that that they're actually very flexible. With a certain amount of research, you can find the right method for you to use timeshares to travel the world. But first you might want to determine if timeshares are right for you and your vacation lifestyle.

When you buy timeshare what you're essentially purchasing is an increment of time, generally one week, every year or every other year. Because your purchase of time is less tangible than, say, an actual piece of property (which you'll certainly have rights to, but won't be responsible for) it's very easy to use your timeshare to travel the world. There are a couple of different methods you can choose to do this.

The most commonly used, and also most traditional method is to purchase time at what's generally known as a "home resort." This property might be a favored travel destination, like Guanacaste, or a destination that is close to home but that you know you'll travel to every year. Now certainly you'll want travel to this destination often, hence purchasing your property there, but with the right preparations, you can use your property at your home resort anywhere in the world. Here's how it works: when you buy your property you'll want to ensure that it is affiliated with an expansive exchange company. These companies make it possible for timeshare owners to exchange their week at their home resort for a week in any of the other resorts in the network, anywhere in the world.

The above method works well if you've found a destination that you'll be happy to return to year after year. But if you're the kind of vacationer who likes to travel to a new and exciting destination every year, or if you don't think you'll be able to make time for annual vacations but still want the opportunity to travel when you have time, you might want to purchase a membership with a vacation club. These clubs sell timeshare much the same way as traditional vacation home sales work in that they'll allot owners an increment of time; but rather than assigning them to a specific resort, instead they'll generally work on a points system where owners can "purchase" time at any resort they choose in the network with their allotted points.
